Aerie was founded in 2006 as an offshoot of the American Eagle Outfitters clothing brand. It initially started out with one store in Greenville, South Carolina, but American Eagle customers quickly became interested. The Aerie brand is now so popular that it sometimes outsells the main American Eagle brand.
